Instrument Voice Control (IVC) is an Android app for controlling test and measurement instruments with spoken English commands. It is designed for engineers, technicians, students, and electronics users who work with oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and similar instruments.
The app recognizes voice commands on the phone and converts them into SCPI commands sent over the local network to the connected instrument.
Main features
- Offline speech recognition using the phone microphone
- Voice control for supported test and measurement instruments
- SCPI command generation over TCP/IP
- SCPI commands over USB cable for USBTMC-compatible instruments.
- Support for saved instrument connections
- Command Help screen with available Free and Pro commands
- Debug and review tools for reporting unsupported or incorrect SCPI commands
- Designed for short, practical voice commands in a lab environment
Supported instrument types
IVC currently focuses on common laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers. Supported commands depend on the connected instrument type and the Free or Pro edition of the app.
Network connection
The app can communicates with instruments over the local network using SCPI over TCP/IP. Typical ports are 5025 for Siglent instruments and 5555 for Rigol instruments, etc.
USB/USBTMC support
No Ethernet port? No problem. The app also supports USBTMC-compatible instruments. Use a USB OTG adapter and a standard USB cable to connect your phone directly to the instrument’s USB-B device port, usually located on the rear panel.
Usage notes
- Voice commands are currently supported in English.
- A quieter environment improves recognition accuracy.
- Speak clearly and keep the phone reasonably close, preferably within about 1 meters.
- The phone and instrument must be reachable on the same local network.
